As I watched hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of snow flakes gently falling to the ground during a recent snowstorm, a couple of thoughts crossed my mind:

1. Research has shown that although snowflakes are similar in shape and design, no two snowflakes are identical--even among hundreds of millions of them.   Although no two are identical, we can still recognise the general characteristics of a snowflake, and name it.   The same is true for trees and grasses, birds and fish, and of course human beings.   We can look at something and name it, yet at the same time be aware that no other is identical to it.   Such is the wonder of creation.

2. The other thought which crossed my mind, was that as the snow blanketed the ground, it hid from view the real condition of what it covered.   Dirty and muddy areas, dead and decaying matter, and all manner of imperfections are hidden from view.   However, the cover is only temporary.   The dirt, decay, and imperfections will reappear when the snow settles or melts.  That surely is part of the natural order of things.

We can learn a lesson or two from the snow.   Like snowflakes, no two human beings are identical.     When it comes to the human condition, God has promised to break the inherent imperfection of humanity (sin) through the atoning death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.     The cleansing or renewing of the human condition isn't a temporary thing (like a blanket of snow), but becomes the permanent condition of those who accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.    Such is the gift of God.

I encourage you to attend a church of your choice on Sunday.   If you do not have a church home, you are welcome to join us on Sunday mornings at 9:30 A.M. for worship.
